Mike Callahan sent the following update recently:
Bob Clark and Sarah Lyon of 1614 Elbur, shared with me that a vehicle of theirs was ransacked this past Sunday night. While losses were minimal, please let this be a reminder to lock vehicles and to be vigilant. Bob did inform the police, and they are following up accordingly. Bob also shared a video of the culprit in action at his neighbor’s house attempting to get into a locked car…https://ring.com/share/6705937253354018755
I attended the city’s block club captain’s meeting last night at Lakewood Park. I was impressed that Mayor Summers spent well over an hour and half talking with approximately 15 block club captains about issues specific to them, as well as reviewing some important news/events happening with the city. In addition to the mayor, Ward 3 councilman John Litten was present, as was at large councilman Tristan Rader, Ward 3 police officer Matt Wintrick, and one other ward officer. Items covered included…
- Block Club liaison position, a city job which previously existed and some captains requested the city consider re-establishing it.
- Construction project update https://onelakewood.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=af95eacb9d934b5ca63340e913a98917
- Street resurfacing – Update on which streets are scheduled for resurfacing and the process for rating the streets.
- Marlowe Traffic Calming – a new-to-Lakewood type of traffic calming device will be installed on Marlowe Ave. temporarily later this year to evaluate its effectiveness.
- Cove Church Property – the city is closing on the property this week, and Mayor Summers discussed plans for a multi-generational public building to house youth and senior programming and to serve other functions as well.
- LED Street Lights – Mayor Summers discussed the cost effectiveness of LED as well as the differences in the type of light. LED street lights are now present on Detroit and Madison and are coming to Clifton and Franklin.
- Clean Water Lakewood/EPA/Integrated Wet Weather Improvement Plan (visit http://www.onelakewood.com/cleanwaterlakewood/ for more info)
I have observed a good number of cars speeding down our street recently as have other neighbors who’ve mentioned it to me. While ward 3 police officer Matt Wintrick was at the meeting last night, I wasn’t able to talk to him directly about our street, so I’ll be messaging him soon to request special attention.
Finally, a reminder that the block party committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 1 at 8pm at 1519 Elbur.
