Block Party Recap

  • Approximately 65 people attended the block party.
  • This year saw the addition of live music, which was well-received.
  • We appreciate the generous monetary donation from Michael and Jamie Ball, as well as the individual donations received from attendees.
  • All money received went into covering costs of this year’s event.
  • Suggestions for next year included:
    • Inviting the Mayor
    • Revising the time of the event
    • Scheduling food and activitity time(s)
    • Setting the date early
    • Distributing a list of volunteer positions
    • Distributing an overall schedule of events
    • Adding a family talent show.

Suggested events/activities

  • A discussion took place around suggested events or activities that the Club could coordinate.
  • It was stated that a chair person would be needed for any event to take place.
  • The group discussed meal trains, holiday house hop, egg hunt, fun run or turkey trot, pancake breakfast, yard cleanup for those in need, a Halloween event, and a new neighbor welcome.
    • Culeen Carey offered to chair the new neighbor welcome.

City Update

  • Councilman Litten stated that while council is on it’s August break, he is busy with an uptick in calls from constituents.
    • Most calls are regarding the sidewalk project.
    • Councilman Litten is willing to work with individual homeowners on any concerns.
    • One concern was presented regarding damage to a tree lawn tree from the sidewalk project.
    • He offered to reach out to the City arborist.
  • A discussion took place regarding Lakewood Park and the parking situation.
    • With increased use of the park, parking is often difficult.
    • Councilman Litten stated that removing green space would impact water run off, and that parking in surrounding neighborhoods is an option.
  • A discussion took place on the council committees and on citizen commissions.
    • Councilman Litten stated there was a vacancy on the Animal Welfare Safety Advisory Board, and anyone interested could contact him.
  • There was also a conversation about property taxes.
    • Councilman Litten noted that 60% of property taxes go to the schools and 17% to the city.

Next Meeting

  • The next meeting will likely be an informal holiday gathering in December.
  • Culeen Carey offered to host.
  • This could also be an opportunity to meet the owners of Mad Mac’s and see if their party room might be available.
  • Another option could be to hold the holiday house hop, but again a chair of that event would be needed.
  • Please contact Ann Marie or Mike if you’re interested.
