Notes from the 4/11/2018 block captains meeting

Anne-Marie attended a block captain meeting a couple of weeks ago that was put on by the City of Lakewood and hosted by Mayor Summers. Here are some highlights of what was discussed.

  • The Family Health Center (located across from the old Lakewood Hospital) should open in July 2018.
    • The work being done to the old Lakewood Hospital space will begin in 2019 and will take about four years to complete.
  • All of Lakewood’s Ward officers were in attendance at the meeting. I was able to meet Officer Matt Wintrick, Ward 3 Officer and look forward to him joining us at our May meeting.
    • They have a lot to offer our community and I’m excited for everyone to learn more about their work.
    • His office is located above Deagan’s Kitchen & Bar for future reference.
  • The Pitbull Ban has been lifted and has been replaced by a non-breed specific, dangerous dog ordinance. Check out these links for more information:

  • The work being done on the sewers at Riverside and Madison will be going on for a year.
  • Ideas were shared by some block club captains about different activities they do on their blocks. Some ideas shared included:
    • Block parties
    • Sunday morning pancakes at rotating garages on the block
    • Turkey Trot race
    • Yard clean-up for neighbors in need of assistance

Please join us at the Thursday May 17th meeting to discuss other Elbur-related information!
